Alonzo Greaves continued his fine form at the Inner Circuit of the National Park when he outmuscled rival and defending champion Robin Persaud and Daniel Ramchurejee in an exciting 3-way battle to take the feature 35-lap school boys and invitational race at the 6th annual Universal Auto & General Supplies Cycle Meet, yesterday.
The penultimate lap of the contest between Persaud, who took 4 of the 8 prime prizes, Greaves 3 and Ramchurejee 1; turned out to be perhaps the slowest of all since the front runners decided to play a cat and mouse game as they watched each other to see to see who would make a move.
Ramchurejee it was who took the attack to the two others and this played right into the hands of Greaves, one of the better sprinters in the business in Guyana.
The final 60 meters of the battle saw the trio in an all out sprint to the line but this was comfortable pickings for Greaves who easily took the race.
The battle for the 4th to 6th place also saw a thrilling finish with Junior Niles out sprinting Enzo Matthews and Alex Mendes in that order to the line.
Kurt La Rose won the juvenile contest with Paul DeNobreiga 2nd and Regan Gibbons 3rd. Davendra Bissoon, Mario King and Mark Harris finished in that order in the upright race; Naiomi Singh took the 12-14 racing cycle event ahead of Tariq Baksh.
Linden’s Kirkwood Kellman out pedaled the field in the over-50 5-lap race crossing the line in front of Courtney Thomas and Robert Beaton. The under-50 clash went to Davendra Ramnarine, Shameer Baksh and Junior Niles in the order.
