Greaves tops field in feature 35-lap clash at NSC sponsored Meet

Alonzo Greaves notched up another exciting win at the National Park, pedaling to victory in the feature 35-lap School Boys and Invitational race yesterday in a time of One hour 22 minutes 51 seconds.
Robin Persaud crossed the line behind Greaves followed by Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams, Enzo Matthews, Daniel Ramchurejee and Berbician Turhan Harris. Williams won 3 of the eight primes, Persaud 2 with one each to Greaves, Matthews and Warren Mc Kay.
Nineteen riders faced starter’s orders but only 6 completed the distance, some of the competitors opting to save their energy for today’s Annual Cheddi Jagan Memorial 50-mile road race on the Essequibo Coast starting at Supenaam at 09:00hrs.
On another blistering day of sunshine, the endurance of the riders was severely tested with some sweltering under the heat.
The juvenile contest was taken by Kurt La Rose of Mahaicony, Paul De Nobrega settling again for the runner-up position, Regan Gibbons placed 3rd. Kester Croal was the top upright with Marlon King and Devanand Bissoon following the winner in that order.
Robert Beaton was again the top over-50 veteran followed by Kirkwood Kellman and Courtney Thomas while topping the field in the under-50 race was Turhan Harris, Kennard Lovell and Shameer Baksh 2nd and 3rd.
Linden riders sounded a stern warning to the opposition that they are coming back in the mix in full force. They dominated the junior races with regular consistency.
Female Hazim Barrett took the 12-14 contest upstaging Naiomi Singh with Toso Fraser placing 3rd.
One/two finishes were recorded by the Bauxite Mining Town lads in the BMX 12-14 and 6-9 races. Delius Richardson took the 12-14 event followed by Randy Haynes and Darius Ramsammy. Jamal Arthur stamped his authority in the 6-9 match-up with Devon Benjamin and Kristof Boyce crossing the line behind in that order.
The BMX 9-12 went to another Lindener, O’Neal Leach, 2nd and 3rd place went to Nicholas Nandan and Christopher Griffith.
Devanand Bissoon won the open BMX race with Richardson placing 2nd and Kwesi Headley 3rd.
