McKay registers second consecutive victory




CONTINENTAL Wheelers cyclist Warren McKay registered his second win in consecutive weeks, when he won the feature 35-lap event of the R&R International-sponsored 11-race cycle programme at the National Park yesterday.
McKay, who registered a winning time of one hour 21 minutes 45 seconds, also won all eight prime prizes that were up for grabs.
Geron Williams out-sprinted Christopher Holder to finish second while Leer Nunes, Darren Allen and Enzo Matthews placed fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
McKay broke away from the pack at the start but was caught during the course of the second lap and Williams attacked and was followed by Christopher Holder, Robin Persaud and Junior Niles.
After completing 17 laps, McKay went out and led for another six laps but was eventually caught by Leer Nunes and Darren Allen.
When the bell rang signalling the final lap, McKay enjoyed a healthy 200-metre lead over the others and went on to win comfortably, while Williams and Holder battled for third and fourth.
In other results, Jason Pollydore won the boys 12-14 years old five-lap race from Marcia Dick and Tariq Baksh respectively
Canada-based Guyanese Wilbert Benjamin won the veterans over-50 five-lap race ahead of Junior Niles and Kennard Lovell respectively, while Anthony Fariah was the winner of the veterans over-50 five-lap affair.
Ozia McAulay won the five-lap event for upright cyclists ahead of Lawrence Boston and Andrew Monique respectively.
Raymond Perez won the three-lap race for BMX boys 6-9 years old. Second was Dineshwar Raghubeer and third, Jamal McKay.
The positions were the same in the BMX boys’ two-lap race.
Jamal Cromwell, however, won the boys 12-14 three-lap race, ahead of Akeem Lakon and Alexander Pereira respectively.
